Volvo safe road train technology
The exciting EU SARTRE project has now been running for a year. Its purpose is to develop, test and validate technology for vehicles that can drive themselves in long road trains on motorways. The SARTRE team is currently aiming at carry out the first development tests of a single lead and following vehicle before the end of 2010. Released today is a documentary film describing the first year’s work of this multi-partner research initiative.

drafting is nice but automated? not so nice
If one of the cars ahead of you gets a flat tire, how will the trailing cars respond?
Dare not imagine what will happen when the technology och the wifi link fails……. Watch previous Volvo presentation video with the car tha supposedly brakes automatically….
Sounds like a lot of expensive ‘technology’ for its own sake. Who the hell is gonna pay for all this? The cars will be significantly more expensive, and you’ll no doubt need to pay a fat fee to join a train. No thanks.
Great idea of having forced alcoholimeter test to turn on the truck!!
why have a road train when you can catch the train
@valetdabess good point. although I think being able to legally travel in a 90-something miles per hour beats dodging traffic to work while hazarding breaking the speed limit. Much quicker and more efficient way to get to work. I could also imagine it possible to replace carpool lanes with platoon lanes, thus nearly eliminating the chances of a wreck caused by a speeder trying to overtake the platoon.
@mrabuckten hahahahha
@jazztrmpr94 to start you are probably right but after it takes off then it becomes mandatory so go ahead and take the bait…
The other problem is that aggressive drivers and people going back and forth to work and running late is not going to resolve anything. But if you are to old or senile and looking for independence and they have a special lane for getting off and on highways then I can see that happening. But what is really going on here is a new way of conditioning and control. What’s next is computers taking over more of our jobs and putting more of us out of work. I said it and am done with it!
good idear
only good thing i can think off is that you wont be to blame for a speeding ticket…
@foxwuj lol… Good Point… I am with you on that one
fuck i don’t want a “professional” driver every “professional” driver i know drives like a dick head
what if the line up of cars gets really long and someone needs to overtake? it’d be good for a road trip but getting to work, i don’t think it’s worth it. just to read the paper or eat breakfast. i’d rather wake up earlier
@heshamharold omg! dont you hate when that happens?! you have a great idea about something and the next thing you know, BAM! you see it on store shelves!!
just buy a bus you dumbasses
can you do a video on what it is like to be a formula 1 engineer
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
this is my idea, i have been thinking about it for years
@salman2070 isn’t that practically the same as sitting on a bus and trusting your driver with your life?
Take all those billions and make people live closer to work.
@jazztrmpr94 Only mandatory in North Korea.
@Bow790 Well, I think they were inplying that it would be an option to join a platoon, not mandatory.
Hopefully this will not happen in my life time. i love driving and i dont want that taken away from me.
So if the truck driver crashes he kills the train? Not a good idea.
This interview reinforces why great agents are learning how to utilize technology to educate the consumer and make them feel more at ease in their challenge of buying/selling their largest investment–the home. Here in Sarasota, FL, I find most of my clients looking for a realtor who utilizes this latest technology to make their task of buying/selling a home more of an informed decision. ‘Old school’ is out and yet so few agents have adapted to technology.
