    Long live VW electrical problems!

  2. kryptomacxc says:

    love my gti

  3. kc2zxl says:

    @mancheste106 Love the Mazda, amazing cars.

  4. kc2zxl says:

    I rather take Mazda, much more refined car than GTI, I should know, I drove one for a week. VW’s laden with electrical/mechanical problems. Mazda is one of those cars that you have to first drive it to appreciate the genius that goes into each vehicle they make.

  5. Drewwberry says:

    @shr229850517 yeah and 10 grand more, compare that to something in its price range. I could say.. “oh well the new zr1 will beat a mustang GT!!” yeah cause its 3x the price. I love the speed and the gti, owned a VW myself. if you want flashy and fast, get the speed3. if you want the refinement and luxury, get the gti. different strokes for diff folks.

  6. Over9000rpm says:

    Mazda:)

  7. silverathlon says:

    @shr229850517 the R32 is the old model and the mazda is still faster that then R32. Although the R32 has all wheel drive. The newer model is the Golf R.

  8. shr229850517 says:

    WTF? 60 hp difference? And dont Forget there is a more powerful version of the golf, and that’s the r32, beat the shit out of Mazda

  9. mancheste106 says:

    That mazda is so fucking ugly its hard to look at it

  10. oldtwins says:

    I like the GTI but it’s not as available and tends to have dumb high retail and even markups on it. I therefore may have to get the mazda. The interior of the mazda isn’t shitty or anything, just not up to par on a 25k car – 15k yes, but not 25k. You’re paying the extra on the motor and suspension.

  11. CrueBrew says:

    I’m surprised MotorWeek failed to mention the interior of the GTI which IMHO is in a whole different realm of quality over the Speed 3. I saw one of the Speed 3′s at the Atlanta car show a few weeks back and couldn’t believe that that is what it comes with. I don’t even know how to describe that crazy pattern on the car seats.

    I would say reliability wise both Mazda and VW are toward the bottom of the lists.

    Maybe this is a age thing. Maybe the younger crowd would like the Mazda better.

  12. josequinto17 says:

    the mazda is fucking ugly

  13. shr229850517 says:

    thumbs up for the GTI

  14. Rennpanzer says:

    @Element61211 As a life-long VW guy, I wouldn’t call the Mazda fugly, but if yer gonna slap scoops and wings on a car, you might as well go ahead and put out a two (or in this case three) door version.

  15. Rennpanzer says:

    The Mazda may be better powered but the VW is better engineered, as is to be expected from a German car. It is merely by choice that VW does not put as much “UMPH” under the GTI’s hood. If their choice had been different, these two cars would likely not even be considered in the same class.

    Bottom Line: The Germans design, engineer, and build the best cars in the world. Whereas the Japanese build the best copies of the best cars in the world.

    Either way, they’re both nice rides.

  16. KoukiMS6 says:

    Yeah, they had some technical difficulties there! A MS3 will NOT do 109, and a GTI won’t do 101.

  17. Element61211 says:

    god damn that mazda is fugly! vw for the win

  18. DAILL2DEF says:

    @harmankardonbose unfortunately, no. as much as I’d like to brag about it, it’s just not true. a low 14, high 13 sec stock speed will trap 98-99 stock, not even close to 109. for that trap, it’d have to be a 12 sec car, most likely with drags AND serious engine work. hopefully this was just an honest error

  19. harmankardonbose says:

    @DAILL2DEF
    Would you tell the car isn´t fast enough ??

  20. kenr79 says:

    As a GTI owner I expect a speed3 to outperform a GTI it’s very obvious. I didn’t even consider a speed3 because I wanted a dual clutch auto transmission, good mpg, and VW GTI hot hatch heritage. also I hate torque steer.

  21. tyler98144 says:

    lol lot’s of GTI owners came here hoping to see a review where the mazda didn’t completely stomp it.

    obvious from the comments.

  22. whotswrall says:

    thumbs up if you prefer the vdub :-)

  23. DAILL2DEF says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHHA…..wow this ass really said 109 mph??? wow. I own the damn car and I know for a fact I have even remotely approached that speed in the 1320. even the 5.6 to 60 sounds off. at best, I’ve observed btwn 5.8 and 6.3, with 5.8 powershifting

  24. killacamry says:

    @H3rBz92
    also for comparison the Audi RS6 does a 1/4 mile 12.8 sec @ 109 mph

  25. killacamry says:

    @H3rBz92
    i think the reason is motor weeks numbers are wrong, that would mean that the mazda would beat a m3 from a 60mph rolling start to 110mph …..i doubt that would happen

  26. autocasioncom says:

    ¡Cómo saben tocarnos la fibra los de Volkswagen! ¡Ains!
