Audi Q5 Custom Concept Bows at Wörthersee Tour 2009
2009 marks the 28th year of the Wörthersee Tour, a meeting of Volkswagen and Audi enthusiasts held annually in Europe. This year marks Audi’s third official appearance, and the automakers is celebrating “100 years of Audi” with a stand featuring everything from production models like the Audi TT RS and R8 5.2 FSI to concept vehicles like the subcompact A1 and Q5 custom.
Audi’s prominent feature at its stand this year is the Q5 custom concept. Created by Audi engineers, the concept features several items from Audi Genuine Accessories. The concept dons a custom Daytona Gray matte finish with red accents on the rims, roof rails, front skirt and rear spoiler, and 21-inch wheels with seven twin-spokes.
Most importantly, Audi’s engineers have dropped an enhanced version of the 3.0 TFSI engine from the Audi S4 into the Q5. While it normally produces 333 horsepower, the engine churns out 408 hp in this application, allowing the Q5 to sprint to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 155 mph.
Audi has also widened the track (by 3.54 inches), lowered the ride height (by 2.36 inches), plus installed ceramic brakes, a performance exhaust system, a strut brace in the engine compartment, stainless steel-plated pedals, S line sport seats and “Wörthersee 09″ floor mats.
Other features at Audi’s stand include an “architectural timeline” that guides visitors through the history of Audi as a carmaker and ends with a stage in the form of a banked curve featuring Audi cars, and the launch of an online contest during which participants can submit creative proposals for possible Audi A3 accessories. Anyone interested in the contest can register at www.audi-customizing-club.de.
